Bloggers Who Brunch

Brunching has become a lifestyle and a crucial part of a blogger's weekend schedule recently. If you scroll through Instagram on a weekend morning, you are bound to see pictures upon pictures of bloggers feasting away on their weekly brunches. While I don't get the chance to go to brunch every weekend, I do try to include the occasional weekend brunch with friends in my diet.
Since brunching has become so popular recently, some of my blogger friends and I decided to team up and share our go-to brunch look as well as our favorite brunch spots. All of their posts are linked at the bottom of this post and since we are all from different areas of the country, hopefully you can find a new brunch spot close to you to try out!
(Also, since this is a brunch post I had to mention this... have y'all seen Draper James' brunch collection?! Too cute.)

Off the Shoulder Top (on sale!) // Shorts // Sandals (similar) // Monogram Necklace

Since I usually find myself waking up just in time to barely make it to brunch before my reservation or before the brunch menu is no longer available, I try to keep my outfits pretty simple. While a dress is usually the easier route to go, I've had more motivation to switch it up when it comes to my brunch attire (although, my friends and I do end up heading to brunch in our pajamas more often than we would like to).
I got this top a month or so ago at Banana Republic and it has since become a staple in my wardrobe. I remember when off-the-shoulder tops started becoming popular I tried them on at nearly every store but they were all either too trendy or just didn't fit right. I stumbled across this one on sale at Banana Republic and it was exactly what I was looking for! I love that it's a solid color (navy, of course) and still has a classic look. I paired it with a lot of my go-to accessories and added a small scarf to my bag for a pop of color. As for my purse, my parents were kind enough to let me pick out something for my birthday/graduation. I knew this would be the perfect thing because I will use it for the rest of my life and think of the special occasions it represents each time I use it.
This is my ideal brunch outfit because it's fun and put together, and the right balance between dressy and casual.

My Favorite Brunch Spots

Toast Cafe // Davidson, NC
Main Street Davidson, NC

Toast Cafe is my go-to brunch spot! I'm probably here at least once every other week. It has all the staples as far as breakfast foods go and is quick and fairly inexpensive. I always get the biscuits and gravy and they have the best corn bread with apple butter on weekends! It's located on Main Street in Davidson, so if you're visiting Davidson College I would definitely stop in for breakfast or brunch.

Fork! // Cornelius, NC
Chicken & waffles sandwich at Fork! in Cornelius, NC

For more gourmet versions of Southern brunch classics, Fork! is the best place to go. Situated in a house turned restaurant, it's the perfect spot to stop at in the morning or after church for brunch on the front porch. My favorite is the chicken & waffles sandwich. Fried chicken, waffles, bacon, and maple butter... is there really any better combination?

Terrace Cafe // Charlotte, NC
Chicken & waffles and french toast at Terrace Cafe in Charlotte, NC

Terrace Cafe is my go-to spot if I'm craving chicken & waffles. The malt waffles melt in your mouth and and you can even swap the regular waffle for a red velvet one (I've never been adventurous enough to try it). My mouth is watering just writing this post! I've never gotten anything other than the chicken & waffles at Terrace Cafe but everyone I've eaten there with has loved their meal and the line is always out the door to get in!

The Crispy Crêpe // Charlotte, NC

For a sweet treat, the Crispy Crêpe has the best breakfast options. They have nearly every flavor you could imagine when it comes to crêpes, waffles, and lattes (yes, that is a s'mores latte in the picture above). After trying a crêpe cooking class at William Sonoma, I think I will just stick with the Crispy Crêpe rather than trying to make my own, it was way harder than it looks!

Poogan's Porch // Charleston, SC

While I can't go here very often since it's not local to me,  Poogan's Porch is one of my absolute favorite restaurants for brunch. The classic Charleston style house and the decor make it the quintessential Southern breakfast spot- biscuits on the front porch? I think yes! Of course I had to opt for the chicken & waffles (it was a tough decision with biscuits and gravy and chicken & waffles and shrimp & grits on the menu)! Now, a trip to Charleston isn't complete without a trip to Poogan's Porch for a twist on a classic Southern dish.

Be sure to see what these girls are wearing and where they are eating for brunch in their posts!

Why I Stopped Using My Planner

Gimme Glamour: Organizing using Google calendars/apple calendar instead of a traditional planner

At the beginning of the school year last year I ended up destroying my Day Designer by soaking it with Dr. Pepper. Until then I thought there was no way to survive without my planner. When I was in that dark time with no planner, I started putting tests and reminders in my phone calendar for the meantime thinking I would just get another planner. Almost a year later I still haven't gotten around to replacing my Day Designer because I like the Calendar app so much better! I ended up loving using the Calendar app that comes with Apple products and have to say I like using it so much better than any planner I have had in the past.
Why?

1. Color coding
While I liked the idea of it, I was never really into color coding with my planners. I knew either a) I would mess up writing in pen or b) my schedule would change and I couldn't erase what I wrote in pen. When I color code using a digital calendar, it's easier to color code without everything being permanent. I only color coded to separate school, home, blog, and sports but I may end up color coding by class next year.

2. Easy to move events around
Going off what I said in the first point, what you put in a digital calendar isn't permanent like a regular planner so it's so easy to just drag an event to another day when something is rescheduled. I know for me test dates and due dates were always being moved around so it was so easy to just drag the events from day to day.

3. If you add an address to an event, it notifies you when to leave
I did not realize how handy this is until I had to go to a million graduation parties in one week earlier this month. When I received an invitation, I added the address of the party in the event so about 30 minutes before I needed to leave, I would receive a notification telling me what time I needed to leave my current location in order to get there on time. This ended up being a lifesaver when there was traffic I didn't know about or when I wasn't sure how long it would take to get to the location.

4. Always have phone/computer with me
I almost always have either my phone or laptop with me, so why would I need to carry an extra calendar around with me? It's so much easier to glance at your phone to see what upcoming events you have than to pull out a planner, not to mention you can turn on notifications for events so you don't forget about them (I was definitely someone who forgot to check their planner and showed up to school only to be surprised by a test/quiz)!

5. If someone texts/emails you about an event with a date on it you can add it straight to your calendar with one click
Whenever you text a date or time on an iPhone it automatically shows up blue and underlined so all you have to do is click that date and it will automatically create an event for you with that date/time. It's so easy because you don't even need to think twice about it to add it to your schedule. A ton of apps are also connected with the calendar and make it easy to have everything in one place. For example, the gym I belong to has an app and if I use it to view the class schedule there is an option to add classes to my calendar.
Here's a look at my calendar for the past month:

As for homework assignments and to-do lists, I keep a running list in the Reminders app or a Google doc and check them off as they are completed. I like how you can add notes and due dates to the reminders as well so you can prioritize what you have to get done.

Reminder: Make sure all your different calendars and lists are categorized as iCloud so you can see them on all of your devices!

Are you a planner or digital calendar person?

This Week 5/26/2016

I started off the week meeting Katie of Chic in Carolina for coffee. It was so fun catching up with her and talking about blog stuff with another blogger. Because it was National Wear Your Lilly Day we were both sporting our favorite Lilly outfits. We decided to snap some blog pictures and do a collab post sharing our Lilly outfits. You can see my outfit post here.

I think every summer I tell myself I am going to read more and end up reading one chapter of a book and giving up. This summer I already read one whole book (I'm so proud of myself)! I finished The Secret Life of Bees earlier this week and it has to be one of my favorite books I have read recently (The Boys on the Boat is right up there, too). It takes place in South Carolina in the 60s and is about a teenage girl who runs away from home to discover more about her family's past. I saw it on one of those lists for 'Books Everyone Should Read' and would definitely recommend this quick read!

The next few days I didn't have much to do so it was nice to have some time to just kind of lay around and hang out with friends. During this time I also watched an embarrassing amount of El Internado on Netflix. I talked about some of the other Spanish shows I watched in my post from a few weeks ago, but since finishing both of those I moved on to El Internado only to realize they are taking it off Netflix July 15!! So I really have to speed through if I want to finish all 7 seasons before they take it off :-)

On Friday my friend and I went to the mall to do some shopping and all I ended up coming home with was this striped phone case on sale from J. Crew. I needed a case that was more protective than my Minnie & Emma one since I destroyed my phone when I was using that case (the entire top right portion of the screen was gone). I had ordered the Minnie & Emma one online and when it came I realized it didn't protect the corners or top/bottom of the phone so I was not impressed with the case for how much it cost. While the one I picked up from J. Crew isn't nearly as protective as an Otterbox it actually covers all the sides/corners which is an upgrade!
On the way home we stopped for donuts at Duck Donuts. We had both heard so much about them and had tried one at a friend's graduation party but wanted to see for ourselves what the hype was all about. It's so cool because you get to choose the icing, toppings, and drizzle for each donut to make your own flavor and my two favorites ended up being the cinnamon sugar with chocolate drizzle and the chocolate icing with salted caramel drizzle! The verdict: lives up to the hype and will definitely be going back (probably more often than we should).

What were you up to this week?

I purchased this dress during the end of year sale last year so this print is no longer available. However, I have linked some of my favorite dresses from this season along with a few that are a similar style to the one I'm wearing in this post! Check out my top picks in the widget below:

To ring in the official start of summer earlier this week, I sported this fun Lilly Pulitzer dress to coffee with fellow blogger, Katie of Chic in Carolina. We were able to meet up last year and for some reason it took us so long to get back together to catch up! It was so fun hanging out and taking blog pics. Because we were both sporting our Lilly attire, we decided to collaborate and share how we style our different Lilly pieces. Katie is sporting the newly re-released You Gotta Regatta print in her post so be sure to check it out!
Whenever I wear a bold Lilly print, I want that to be the focal point of the outfit, so I tend to wear very few and very basic accessories. I opted for my go-to accessories like my pearl earrings, Clubmasters, and Jacks and added a summery cork clutch to switch it up. I love Lilly shifts like this because they can easily look dressy or casual based on how you accessorize. This look would be appropriate for a nice dinner or just boppin' around town like I was when we took these pictures.

Check out how Katie styled her You Gotta Regatta shorts on her blog here!

This Week 6/19/2016

Ok so I'm actually the worst and missed last week's post because I had absolutely no idea what day of the week it was (#justsummerthings, right?). A LOT happened this week so this is just a warning that this post will probably be very photo heavy.

Last Friday my best friends and I finally went to food truck Friday in Charlotte. It was something that had been on our to-do list forever and we finally had the time to make it down there for dinner. We opted for the Tin Kitchen taco truck and tested out the 'Wonut'. The gourmet tacos were the perfect choice and the Wonut was out of this world. It's a combination of a donut and waffle and all three of us chose the s'mores toppings. They were so good I think we all could've eaten ten of them haha.

S'mores dip is one of those recipes that you seem to see everywhere (Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter) but never actually make. Well, I made it and it is a game changer. It takes five minutes, is less messy than s'mores, and tastes like something you would get at the Melting Pot! Highly recommend.
Quick tip: the recipe says to make it in a skillet but to avoid having to clean the sticky mess, make the dip in a tin pie pan so you can just throw it away when you're done!

On Saturday evening I had my graduation party (along with most everyone else at my school...I ended up going to three parties that afternoon and then straight to mine so I had zero time to take any good pictures of our decorations). I had such a great time celebrating with my friends and family, eating too many cupcakes and playing corn hole. Backstory about the corn hole board: Mod Podge is not as easy as it looks. I got the Elon logo printed at Staples and planned on Mod Podging it to the board and then sealing it with a gloss but it was a complete fail! I must have not done it right because the next day the logos pretty much fell off. At least they stayed on for the party and for the Instagram picture :)

On Monday I turned 18 and went to dinner at The Palm with my parents and my two best friends. The highlight of the dinner was definitely the dessert. We opted for the cinnamon donut holes and the 7-layer chocolate cake which were both so good but the cake didn't even compare to the warm donuts with chocolate sauce. After dinner I went and bought a few scratch-offs and I won $5!! Life as an adult sure is exciting :)

On Tuesday I graduated from high school and it still doesn't feel like it really happened. I keep thinking I have homework to do or have to pick out an outfit for school tomorrow and then realize I'm on summer break. But it sure is a nice plus to not have hours of summer work for AP classes this year :) Before the ceremony I was certain I would shed more than a few tears but I held myself together (I must be saving the waterworks for when I actually leave for college).

My friend Gabby and I thought we were so funny and went to a Bojangles restaurant to take a picture before graduation since the ceremony is held at Bojangles Coliseum. Our picture got quite a few favorites on Twitter so it was worth the trip haha :)

This morning my parents and I played a round of golf for Father's Day. I hadn't picked up a club since October so I was a little rusty but it was so fun to be back out on the course. For Father's Day, I ended up getting my dad this Yeti tumbler and Vineyard Vines golf shirt. I finally invested in a Yeti for myself too and it definitely lives up to the hype. My ice didn't melt for 12 hours! Everyone in my family is also a huge fan of Vineyard Vines golf wear. They make my absolute favorite golf polos because they don't wrinkle or show sweat and they look great!

Shirt (similar here and here) // Shorts // Purse (this year's version) // Sunglasses

I got this shirt a while back from Saks Off Fifth, so I can't link this exact one, but is easily one of my summer favorites. Palm prints are a big trend this year and I love how this is different than the typical banana leaf print. Paired with crisp white shorts and simple accessories it is an easy outfit to throw on for lunch with friends.
I'm sure you've noticed by now but most of my outfits are made with the same type of formula: printed top with a pair of chinos, pearl earrings, clubmaster sunnies, and a cross body bag. It makes it so much easier when I'm running out for dinner or something and all I have to do is pick a shirt and find which color of shorts match and then the rest is easy! Do y'all have a similar summer uniform?

Shirt (40% off!) // Shorts (50% off) // Monogram Tote // Pearl Bracelet // Pearl Earrings

(FYI: The Brooks Brothers Semi-Annual Sale started this morning!!)

You can never go wrong with navy and white (or nautical prints)! I got this top from Brooks Brothers a while back and now that the weather has warmed up it has quickly become one of my go-to's.  It's hard for me to pass up a good nautical shirt especially this one with a different pattern (and a front pocket and button detailing)! The material is super lightweight so it will be perfect for those days when the temperature nears 100 degrees. Hopefully we don't have too many of those this summer, haha. I paired it with classic navy and white accessories so the outfit was simple and the shirt was still the statement piece.
I almost forgot my L.L. Bean tote existed but I am so glad I found it while pulling my summer stuff out. It is perfect to throw stuff in for the pool and I know I will be packing it for a couple beach trips this summer. I have the medium size with regular handles and it fits my 15" laptop perfectly. I carried it to school with me every day last year to carry all of my textbooks and binders that wouldn't fit in my backpack and it is still good as new! I am always so impressed with the quality of L.L. Bean's products (and their reasonable prices).
