This Week 7/31/2016

I can't believe tomorrow is the start of August already (T minus 26 days until move in)! I got my housing assignment and schedule on Wednesday so now it has finally hit me that I'm heading to college in no time. Speaking of college, a few fun college themed posts are coming to the blog this week! I didn't do much this week but it's always nice to have a lazy day (or week) to watch some Netflix and write some blog posts. The most exciting thing I did this week was go jeans shopping with my dad which is so frustrating to me. We went to two malls over four hours and I can't even count how many pairs I tried on. It seems impossible to find a pair that is long enough, has no holes and isn't legging material. My absolute favorites are the 7 For All Mankind Roxanne jeans but they were discontinued. After that stressful trip we treated ourselves to gelato at Va Da Vie.
One thing worth mentioning is the Gilmore Girls revival series. I finally watched the date announcement video and I was almost in tears watching it. Gilmore Girls is one of my favorite shows (I watched the whole series twice on Netflix) I can't wait for it to come out in November!! I almost want to watch the whole series again before it comes out...

Friday Finds 7/28/2016

Draper James is having a 48 hour sale! The best deals are on the mugs and plates from their brunch collection and stationary (these are my absolute favorite thank you notes). I also included an identical version of my jumper from yesterday's post that is only $20 as well as the comfiest tees I picked up on sale from J. Crew Factory.

This jumper is not something I would typically pick out for myself, but after seeing it on Sydney's snapchat I had to have it and ordered it from the Nordstrom sale. It's an easy to wear piece that looks great with a striped shirt and I love the 70's vibe it adds to my outfits. It is a little more on the trendy side, but pairing it with a striped shirt helped it stay true to my personal style. After getting this denim jumper, I've started to love wearing more denim and bought two denim skirts from Forever 21 (this one and this one) and am loving the look of a denim jacket! I paired it with a pair of cute and comfy white sneakers and added my gingham scarf to my bag for a pop of color.

Fashion Forward Golf Attire

As I mentioned in my previous golf outfit post, golf has been a big part of my life for what seems like forever. After the state championships for school golf in October I stopped playing competitively and ultimately recreationally as well. It finally started to feel weird not practicing and playing every weekend and I am so glad I finally got back out on the course this summer. Finding cute and functional golf clothes has always been the biggest struggle. It seems like most golf skirts are geared toward older women making them on the longer side, leaving too-short tennis skirts as the only other option. Sydney Elizabeth created exactly what I had been looking for all these years. A cute, breathable, mid length skirt with pockets (I can't stress the pockets part enough)! They also recently added golf polos and popovers to their site which pair perfectly with the skorts. I can't say enough good things about Sydney Elizabeth's designs as they look great on and off the course!

Golf has definitely been gaining popularity recently especially with young adults (it's not just for old people!!!). If you want to pick up golf, it can definitely be kind of tricky (and frustrating) to get started. However, there are so many fun options for golf related fun for players of any level. Par 3 courses are a really fun way to get started playing or just a fun thing to do with friends! Par 3 courses are cool because they are in between mini golf and real golf. There are probably more than a few in your area and sometimes public driving ranges will have one! Another thing that I cannot wait to open in Charlotte is Top Golf. I had heard of it on social media but when I looked into it after hearing about it coming Charlotte it was even better than I thought it would be. It's an "entertainment complex" where you hit at targets and play against friends (and they have a great menu with chicken & waffles sliders). You know I'll be there the moment it opens :). A laid back setting with friends makes for a more fun (and less stressful) way to play golf!

Do any of y'all play golf?
What do you think of Sydney Elizabeth's designs?

My Top 5 Daily Skincare Products

This summer I've been good about sticking to an actual skincare routine. During the school year it's so much harder when you're rushing to get to school in the morning or just want to fall asleep in your clothes after a late night of studying. While my skin isn't perfect, it's definitely seen some improvement with these products. Of course, every person's skin is different which is why I can't stress going to a dermatologist or doctor for acne treatment enough. Since adding a prescribed acne spot treatment in my routine I have seen a huge improvement! I typically stick to the same stuff when it comes to beauty/skincare routines and it's easy to see that in this post as most of these products are ones that I have repurchased more than a few times. All of these products are gentle, unscented and don't include any acne fighting ingredients so I'm not too harsh on my skin.

Gimme Glamour: Holy grail skincare products, First Aid Beauty, Lush, L'Occitane

1. First Aid Beauty Pure Skin Face Cleanser
This has been my favorite face wash for the past two years. It's gentle and leaves no residue making my skin feel clean (I hate when some cleansers leave your face feeling sticky). I've already repurchased this product four times!

2. First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Face Moisturizer
I've alternated between this moisturizer and their Skin Rescue Daily Face Cream. They are both great but I like the pump better on this one and how my skin absorbs it and doesn't leave a film on my face. I like using a moisturizer better than a cream on my face because it's lighter and doesn't clog my pores.

3. First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads
I got a free sample of these and since then have repurchased the full sized product twice. It's the perfect exfoliating option and is extremely gentle. I know when I use a traditional exfoliator it's messy and leaves my skin irritated, but these are so gentle.

4. Lush Cosmetics Tea Tree Water
For the longest time I had not included a toner water in my skincare routine. When I saw the benefits of using it and how easy it is to use, I finally incorporated it into my routine. I typically pour this one onto a cotton round, rather than spritzing it, and see makeup come off that my makeup remover wipes missed. This is just another step to preventing acne and clogged pores.

5. L'Occitane Dry Skin Hand Cream
This is my holy grail product in the winter. It's a really thick, heavy duty cream that doesn't leave your hands feeling oily or slippery. It's a little pricier but I'm glad I bit the bullet and bought it. I keep this one in my purse because it's less thick and has a light scent.

What do you include in your daily skincare routine?

Top // Jeans // Sandals // Purse // Gingham Scarf (on sale!) // Bracelet (c/o)

When I saw this top in Brooks Brothers' new arrivals, I knew it would make a great staple in my wardrobe. I love how simple and clean cut the top is in the front and the fun touch the asymmetrical back adds. My summer color scheme is most often red, white and blue, so adding my trusty gingham scarf to my bag and a nautical KJP bracelet was a no-brainer. The bracelet I'm wearing in this post is from Kiel James Patrick's new Yacht Knot line and it couldn't be more perfect (red, white and blue and anchors)! Kiel James Patrick is one of my favorite brands to wear and I love following Kiel and Sarah on Instagram and Snapchat (have y'all seen their new puppy, Bennie?!). I love the classic nautical touch their bracelets add and I have worn their bracelets, necklaces and shirts on the blog countless times.

This Week 7/24/2016

My mom and I started out the week with a trip to Southpark Mall. We had some stuff to return and pick up so we used it as an excuse to grab lunch at Phillips Place. We always tell ourselves we need to try the Wolfgang Puck restaurant there but never actually do, but we finally tried the Chinese chicken salad. We also got a chance to check out the Nordstrom Sale but weren't too impressed with the clothing options. Most of the week was spent bopping around to Target to pick up dorm stuff from my never-ending list and watching Netflix (I just started Malcom in the Middle and it's too funny).

On Thursday my friend and I grabbed lunch and made the trek over to the Cabarrus Creamery for ice cream cookie sandwiches after seeing them featured in Southern Living Magazine. We definitely should've just split one because each one had two ginormous cookies with three generous scoops of ice cream in between... but boy were they good. I ended up getting chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream on chocolate chip cookies (sticking to the classics).

On Saturday I went roller skating for my friend's birthday! I hadn't been roller skating since middle school and it was so fun that I want to buy my own roller skates now. I was also really proud of myself because I didn't fall once :) That evening I went to my best friend's graduation party which was so fun (and had the best food... you can't go wrong with pasta and cupcakes).

Today my dad and I played nine holes after lunch and despite it being 95 degrees I had so much fun. I had only picked up a club once or twice since the school season ended in October and I stopped playing competitively, but I was ready to get back in the swing of things (pun intended) and get back on the course!

What were you up to this week?

Friday Finds 7/21/2016

I did a lot more shopping this week since I was back from vacation, most of which was stocking up on some essentials for college. My order from the Nordstrom sale came in and my favorite item is definitely the overall dress (especially paired with a striped tee). I saw it on Sydney's blog and even though it's not something I would usually wear, I had to have it! The new J. Crew style guide came in the mail this week and there were too many cute things. I can't wait for Fall now so I can wear all the sweaters and jackets I've been seeing in stores! Here are a few things I got from the Nordstrom Sale and a trip to the mall as well as a few new arrivals I've been loving:

Fixer Upper Inspiration

Fixer Upper seems to be one of the most talked about HGTV shows right now. Not only are the remodels amazing, but Chip & Joanna are the cutest couple with the best personalities. I'm not sure if I just didn't notice it before but their signature farmhouse style seems to be all over Pinterest and it sure has me ready to redo our house to get that rustic yet classic style. I'm sure we would all love to knock down a few walls, put in a barn sink and tear up our walls to unveil the most perfect shiplap like Chip & Joanna do, but that's not exactly feasible for most of us. However, we can take inspiration from their designs to add some fun farmhouse styles in our own homes (or even dorm, Jo did a blog post for styling a dorm)! Magnolia Market does offer super cute décor and furniture that they use in the show, but I found that places like Target offer very Fixer-Upper-esque pieces at more affordable prices.

Gimme Glamour: Fixer Upper Inspiration. Magnolia Farms tee.

I love wearing a comfy outfit like this for boppin' around especially since this Magnolia shirt looks a little nicer than a typical t-shirt. Almost every time I wear this shirt out, at least one person will stop dead in their tracks exclaiming how much they love the show!

Here are some fun (affordable) home décor pieces from Target that you can incorporate into your bedroom, desk, or living area to achieve the farmhouse style!
Do you watch Fixer Upper? What do you think of the farmhouse style?

Top (other tropical tops here and here) // Shorts // Purse (this year's version)

When I saw this tropical top at the Brooks Brothers Factory Store all I could think of was the beach. It's a great lightweight linen top with a fun beachy pattern that was perfect for dinner after a day at the beach. Because I got it at the Factory Store, it isn't available online so I linked a couple of other beach appropriate tops. I paired it with my go-to white shorts and favorite classic accessories. When packing for the beach, I made sure to bring a bunch of patterned tops (way too many stripes) that would match my solid colored shorts and then just added my everyday purse and accessories! It made it so easy to just throw on an outfit for dinner after spending the day at the beach and pool.

This Week 7/17/2016: Hilton Head Island

I spent this past week with my family and two best friends at the beach on Hilton Head Island. It's my favorite beach to visit and loved the area we stayed in because we were on the beach, within walking distance of the Salty Dog, and could bike nearly anywhere. It was a really laid back week hanging out on the beach, eating too much ice cream and not worrying about hair or makeup.

Monday morning we woke up early to go paddle boarding. We had only done it on the river at the White Water Center, so it was fun to do a guided tour in the sound. It was surprisingly easy to get up and we paddled to a nearby beach so we could cool off in the water, but I didn't go in too far after seeing a few stingray swim by me! Since we paddle boarded out of South Beach Marina, we just walked over to the Salty Dog for lunch (I can't even count how many times we stopped by for chicken tenders & fries). After that we just hung out at beach and ordered Jake's pizza for dinner. After dinner my friends and I went mini golfing and got ice cream sundaes at the diner next door to the mini golf place. For some reason we thought we needed a sundae and a huge piece of chocolate cake... we couldn't finish either and felt like we were going to explode!

Tuesday morning we woke up early again to go on the banana boat. For some reason it is the least popular activity but we thought it was so fun! We were crying from laughter the whole time because we kept falling off and looked so stupid in our goggles. After spending the afternoon at the beach we grabbed dinner at Hudson's. It's the cutest place on the water and has my favorite hushpuppies ever! I tried the shrimp & grits and it was sooo good. See what I wore to dinner in this post.

Wednesday we biked to breakfast at a café in Harbor Town. One of my favorite things about staying in Sea Pines is being able to bike basically anywhere! We took it easy the rest of the day and hung out at the beach, had dinner at Salty Dog, and played a ton of Scrabble and Scattergories.

Thursday morning we walked over to Lands End Tavern for breakfast where they had the best homefries (basically breakfast french fries) and hung out at the beach all day. For dinner we ate under the lighthouse in Harbour Town at the Quarterdeck. The highlight of the meal was the molten lava cake (we ended up ordering a second one after eating the first too quickly)! After dinner we had to stop by to see Gregg Russel. The kids he brings up on stage are always too funny!

Friday morning we woke up early and went for a bike ride on the beach and then treated ourselves to s'mores cinnamon rolls for breakfast. We were kind of tired of laying in the sun every day so we watched too much HGTV and Disney channel and then headed to the pool. We didn't feel like putting on real clothes  so we just grabbed pizza at the Mellow Mushroom. We all agreed that we packed more real clothes than we needed and not enough  t-shirts and shorts but a trip to the Salty Dog t-shirt store fixed our problem pretty quickly :)

Saturday morning was our last day so we woke up early and took some blog pictures on the beach. After packing up the car we had breakfast at the Hilton Head Diner again before heading home. I got the pecan waffle with hash browns again and it was sooo good. I know I'm going to be making my own pecan waffles at home now. The drive home ended up being 2 hours longer than it should've been but our Disney playlist made the ride more enjoyable :)
